The Constitution Project sponsored the Washington DC premier of The Trials of Darryl Hunt, along with HBO Documentary Films, the Clifford Chance law firm, and the Justice Project. The film, an official selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and recent Independent Spirit, Award nominee, documents the 20-year aftermath of a harrowing rape-murder and wrongful conviction in the modern American South. The Trials of Darryl Hunt debuted exclusively on HBO on April 26, 2007 and will air through May 2. You can view the trailer and see a full schedule of airtimes on HBO’s website.
During a panel discussion following the premier, William S. Sessions, a member of our Death Penalty Committee, and a former FBI Director and former federal judge in Texas recommended a compelling article posted in the New York Times regarding the revolutionary impact DNA testing has had on sex crimes.
