Virginia Sloan Tells Newshour Audience Proposed Death Penalty Rules ‘Disastrous’

Yesterday, Constitution Project president Virginia Sloan appeared on the Lehrer NewsHour to discuss recently issued regulations by the Justice Department that will, if finally approved, greatly diminish any assurances that people convicted of a capital crime will be appointed competent, fairly compensated lawyers with adequate resources to mount a defense. As a result, the criminal justice system will become less accurate, less fair, and more likely to convict and perhaps execute the wrong people.
