The Supreme Court October 2011 Term: Cases and Controversies

The U.S. Supreme Court plays a vital role in preserving individual rights and safeguarding the rule of law. Join us for a conversation about the wide range of important cases that the Court confronts this term, focusing on those cases in which a decision has not yet been handed down and those cases that will be argued in the near future. Panelists include, Linda Greenhouse, Senior Research Scholar in Law at Yale Law School; E. Joshua Rosenkranz, Partner, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP; Steven Shapiro, Legal Director for the American Civil Liberties Union; and Paul Saunders, Of Counsel, Litigation Department, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and TCP Board Member.

“It was torture,” TCP's independent, bipartisan, blue-ribbon Task Force on Detainee Treatment concluded in a report released April 16, 2013. The group looked at the federal government's policies and actions related to the detention and treatment of suspected terrorists captured in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere and held in U.S. custody during the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations.
